2016 Manila Science entrance exams: 2016 Manila Science High School Admission Test (MSAT)

Announcement/Update1 : The Manila Science Entrance Exams 2016 Results are out. Check out this post to see the results of the 2016 Manila Science Admissions Test (MSAT).
The Department of Education, Division of City Schools, Manila has released Memorandum No. 437, dated September 29, 2015, concerning the Administration of the 2o16 Manila Science High School Admission Test (MSAT). You may access the memo through this link on the DepEd Manila website. I am reprinting the contents of the said memo below:
- The application for the 2016 Manila Science High School Admission Test (MSAT) will start on November 9, 2015 and will end on January 8, 2016. Application for the MSAT will be entertained only during school days, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., by duly designated members of the administrative staff at the Records section of Manila Science High School. Application requests will not be entertained during Christmas vacation.
- Applicants must have the following qualifications:
a. A candidate for graduation of any government-recognized elementary school;
b. Not over 13 years of age at the opening of of the School-Year 2016-2017;
c. Must have a grade of at least 85% in Mathematics, Science, and English subjects, and a grade of at least
83% in all other subjects for the First and Second Grading Periods (Grades in the succeeding grading
periods lower than the aforementioned grade qualification is a ground for disqualification); and
d. Possesses good moral character and in good health. - The MSAT permit will be issued to the applicant’s parent or guardian upon presentation of the following requirements:a. Certified true copy (with school seal) of Form 138 reflecting the First and Second Grading Period grades,School Year 2015-2016;
b. Certificate of Good Moral Character (with school seal) signed by the school principal;
c. Two 1″ x 1″ ID pictures in school uniform and with name tag; and
d. NSO birth certificate (original and photocopy) - Applicants have to take a qualifiying written examination which consists of five parts:Part I: Aptitude Test in Mathematics
Part II: Aptitude Test in Science
Part III: English Proficiency Test
Part IV: Problem-Solving Test in Mathematics and Science
Part V: Critical Thinking - Date of examination is on January 23, 2016 at Manila Science High School testing rooms and time of
examination are reflected in the MSAT permit. The testing rooms and list of names of the applicants shall be posted a day before the examination. No MSAT Permit, No Test rule shall be strictly observed. School ID shall be requested for verification purpose by the room examiner. - The names of the Top 250 scorers will be posted on the bulletin board of the school on April 11, 2016 and can
be downloaded from the official website of Manila Science High Schooll (manilascience.edu.ph). - The following graduates of public and duly-recognized private elementary schools in Manila who take the
MSAT will be given admission privilege with a certification from the principal of the school concerned stating the honors received and the total number of graduating students.a. Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Public and Private Elementary Schools in Manila with 300-above graduates.
b. Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Public and Private Elementary Schools in Manila with 3-4 classes or
below300 graduates. - MSAT qualifiers will undergo physical examination to be conducted by the school physician and then followed
by the interview of the administrative staff, the date of which will be announced or to be posted later. - MSAT passers who fail to enroll within the announced enrollment period shall be replaced by those who are
next in rank. - All provisions of previous memoranda/circulars inconsistent with the provisions of this Memorandum shall be
deemed rescinded. - Wide and immediate dissemination of this Memorandum to all concerned is desired.

Hi Jean. The results of the MSAT exams will be released on April 11, 2016 by the Manila Science High School registrar’s office. Results will be posted on the bulletin board inside the MSHS campus. Additionally, you may want to follow the Facebook page of the MSHS School Government for 2015-2016 for any updates.
Hi. My co-parent told me that there were usually. “wait listers” last year. What would be the probability of these students be accepted? Just asking.
Wait listed applicants are usually contacted by the school as soon as a seat/slot opens up. Otherwise, the parents/students may call up the school themselves and ask, which, I highly recommend that wait-listers do, instead of waiting for the call. I don’t have the statistics about the odds of wait-listeds getting in.
My son is an incoming grade 6 this school year 2016 to 2017. But he will graduate in a makati private school. We would like to apply him for scholarship at Manila science. We understand that graduate from Manila schools are given admission privileges. But if his score qualified in the top 250, he can still enroll in Manila science? Thanks.

I can’t vouch for the truthfulness of the claim that graduates from Manila schools are given admission preference at MSHS, but I will say that many students from outside Manila do clear the exams and obtain admission. I believe all students who take the exams have a fair and equal chance of getting admission. I suggest you have your son take admissions exams at the Manila, Makati and Pasay City Science High Schools (the three science high schools that are closest to Makati).

Hi, Sarah. So far, I’ve only heard of Ateneo and UST announcing entrance tests for their SHS programs. The only ones that can give you a definitive answer to your query about SHS entrance tests for science high schools would be the schools themselves.

Hi, July. I don’t know the complete details of your conversation with the said person from MaSci. But they do show consideration to those who have missed their interviews for one reason or another. Did the MaSci personnel (I’m assuming said person is one) mention a deadline for the interview? Otherwise, you must show up personally at MaSci, with all the necessary documents, as soon as possible.
Hi, thanks again for your time to reply. When my husband tried calling them earlier, it sounds like different person that time. And yes, they are considerate. The one he spoke with, told him to email them regarding the consideration of rescheduling the interview and attach the itinerary tickets of the airline. We are now waiting for their reply in email and hopefully they would consider our request. Thanks.

MSAT entrance examinations are generally held in January. Submission of applications for taking the MSAT usually starts in November.

You’re welcome. You can only get the application forms from the MaSci office itself, unless they start making them available online in the future. Based on past schedules, MSAT application period starts in the first week of November.

Hi, Steph. I’m not connected to MaSci in any way. You will need to file an application for your son to take the MSAT. Application period usually starts in November and the examination generally takes place in January.

good day admin, i just want to ask if you have any idea if masci accept transferee from another science high school, like, grade 7 from other science hs then, next school year (grade 8) he want to transfer to masci, he did took the msat and passed and enrolled in masci, i just back out because i cant find school service for him at that time, btw, travel time from our place to masci took more than 1 hr 🙁

Hi, Marietta. As long as your daughter meets the eligibility criteria for taking the MSAT, then she can take the MSAT. MSAT application requirements for last year are in the blog post, and I don’t expect them to change this year. Applications generally open in November and the MSAT is usually given in January.

MaSci Admissions Office is open during regular office hours, so the parents/guardians can submit the requirements on weekdays. The student does not have to appear at the time of submission of requirements/MSAT application. For your other questions, I suggest you call up the school at (02)525-6197.

As long as the student meets the eligibility criteria for taking the MSAT and submits the required documentation, then I don’t see why he or she cannot take the admissions exam.

As far as I know, only Filipino citizens are eligible to study in government-funded science high schools in the Philippines.
Only the MSHS administration can decide about matters concerning transfer students.
